How To Communicate With Your Golden Retriever

In order to successfully train your Golden Retriever you must be able to communicate very clearly with him. You will want to be able to give your dog a command, and have your dog respond appropriately to it. So it is important that when you communicate a command to your dog that you do it clearly and in a way that you can repeat. If you are inconsistent with the way you communicate a command, then this will only lead to your dog becoming confused with what you are actually wanting him to do.

It is quite obvious that humans and dogs are completely different. So it goes without saying that communication can be quite a challenge. Dogs tend to communicate without words, yet despite this there communication can be quite effective and efficient with their own kind. In the dog world, dogs will communicate generally with body language as well as through auditory methods. So we need to understand that dogs do not understand how human language, but what they will do understand is the tone of our voice.

Decide on a set of simple commands that you want your Golden Retriever to learn. Perhaps even draw up a command sheet for all your family to use also. But the key is to be consistent with the words you use for the desired action. Then make sure you deliver these commands with an appropriate tone of voice.

It has been proven that dogs will generally respond better to lower tones as opposed to higher pitched tones of voice. This is why you tend to see more dogs responding better to male humans as opposed to females or children. This is a generalization, however some females who put on a lower tone of voice can get the same response. So if you needed to correct your dogs behavior, refrain from using a higher tone or high pitched voice. Simply decrease the tone of your voice, and speak in an authoritative tone of voice.
