While the golden retriever mix
is usually a placid and loving dog, there could be problems depending on what
the golden retriever has been mixed with. It is not wise to have a golden
retriever mix from a litter where the one parent is a golden retriever and the
other a Rottweiler or a more aggressive breed of dog. The ideal combination
would be another placid, and willing to perform and please dog such as the
Labrador. However these special requests are far and few between but if you have
your own then you can breed them yourself.
Checking The Traits
Yes, you will be able
to see the traits of your animal if it is a golden retriever mix,
as the most obvious sign is that if there is water around, the dog will most
likely be in it. Retrievers are known to be lovers of water, and it’s like a
constant attraction that they want to be in it and have fun and swim all day if
they could. It’s nice to know that your pet has special attractions to tire them
out, instead of you coming home from a long and tiring day at work that you
still have to take them for a long walk around the block, and spend some play
time with them. The golden retriever
mix will be quite happy after
keeping themselves occupied for the day to lay by your feet and be spoken to on
the odd occasion while you have your meal or doing your household chores. The
golden retriever mix
is just one of those ideal dogs to have in your home, besides the fur that could
be falling off when they are malting, but who cares, it is like filling the home
with love all over.
Even though it would be
best to keep the breeds apart, it is not always possible, and therefore you may
end up with the health conditions of both breeds in one dog. If the general
health conditions of both breeds are the same, then we could say by all means,
but if they vary vastly then it is not advisable to mix the breeds.
It may seem by
achieving the golden retriever mix
that an ultimate placid dog has been achieved, but unfortunately interbreeding
could have a negative effect. Not every batch of puppies would be perfect, and
through experimentation the temperament of the dogs would have to be tested
after several litters have been produced. This is not just something that can be
assumed but is hoped that the temperament does not change for the worse.
Backyard Breeding
Many people chose
either the golden retriever or the labrador breed on their own, and are
sceptical about going with the golden
retriever mix. They may not seem
as perfectly pleasing to the eye with the mixture of genes, but once attached to
the heart cannot be just dismissed. Yes there will be size difference, color and
hair differences, but overall the dog will not look like an abomination at all.
When it comes to
finding the perfect golden retriever
mix, the thought of hip dysplasia
should come to mind. This problem mainly occurs when breeds are mixed and the
weaker gene comes into play. It is advisable that if you know your parent dogs
have hip dysplasia that all breeding discontinues. This is not a good trait for
them to have, and to repair the problem could be costly in larger breed adult
dogs. In most cases the problem cannot be rectified and the dog actually has to
be put down.
Hip dysplasia is basically
displaced hips, deformation or misalignment of the hip joint, so as the dog gets
larger and heavier, it is more difficult to walk or move its legs. This is one
fact that needs to be assessed when getting a new puppy of a pure breed, and
even though none of the litter may have it, there are still no guarantees that
it could not happen on its own if it part of the dogs genetic traits to have the
gene. This problem of hip dysplasia occurs more in dogs that can get large or
heavy as they grow towards adulthood, while the smaller breeds such as lapdogs
and miniatures don’t tend to have this problem.
