Additives To Make Your Golden Retriever’s
Diet More Complete
Powdered bone meal gives all the nutrients that your
golden retriever is lacking from not eating bones, and will gradually help to
restore you golden retriever’s natural ability to digest bone. Additionally, a
multivitamin powder is a good idea to ensure proper vitamin and mineral consumption,
and complete golden retriever nutrition. Also some digestive enzymes should always
be used if the meat will be cooked as it helps digestion and decreases gas and
loose stools. In either instances use high quality human or consumption grade
products from an animal supply or health food store.
Recipe Modification
Those
basic recipes may be modified to fit you individual golden retriever’s nutritional
needs and taste. For example, in the “Divine Doggy Dinner” green beans could be
replaced with broccoli, zucchini, or squash are usually golden retriever favorites.
The Champion dog biscuits are a great way to get your dog to eat more vegetables;
much like children, golden retrievers often loves anything with cheese. Make up
your own recipes and be sure to include proven favorites for your golden as the
main part of the dish, and add a few small new things at a time.
Feeding
It
is important to remember to modify your golden retriever’s diet slowly, adding
first a small amount then increasing the amount of real food, until it is entirely
real food, and the more raw food the better. It is also important to remember
that golden retrievers like to eat two small meals a day not just one large one;
eating only once will leave them feeling hungry and uncomfortable by dinner. Real
foods are also less immediately filling than kibble, so offer smaller portions
with breaks in between before you only give a set amount of food; your golden
retriever’s age, activity level, and tolerance for real foods will dictate exactly
how much they will eat.
Eggs And Dairy
Eggs should always be served
hard boiled, cooled, and not much more than two to three times a week, as they
have a lot of fat. Most dairy will give many golden retriever’s gas or loose stools,
this is normal but probably uncomfortable for the dog. The best dairy for your
golden retrievers nutrition are yogurt and hard cheese; each of these has lower
fat (or no fat) and the yogurt contains active cultures to aide the digestion
of dairy. Combining these foods with lean meats and vegetables will offer complete
nutrition for your golden retriever.
Nutrition And Overall Health
Your
golden retriever’s nutrition is directly related to their overall health; remember
to prepare your dog’s meals with the kind of balance you would for yourself, keeping
portion size in check. There is often a ‘detoxify’ period in every golden retriever
where they seem to be ill, loose mucous filled stools and such, wait this out;
it usually only lasts a few days and is simply the dogs body extracting all the
terrible chemicals stored up in it’s body from the commercial food. Once the detoxification
is complete you will notice a softer, shinier coat than your dog has likely ever
had before. Now, imagine how beautiful your dog will look when you begin grooming
your golden retriever.
