Hey animal lovers, I was just wondering if Golden Retrievers and German Shepherds get along together?

I am an animal lover, and I am wondering if I am able to get a golden retriever and a german Shepherd because I love both kinds of dogs:) So does any one know if the two get along with each other being that they would be living together?? Thanks xD

I have two goldens, I don't really think that it depends on the breed though, just their seperate personalities. My two dogs will fight and bite each other one minute, and the next, they are on the couch together, but once again, it depends on the temperment and personaltiy of the dog. My one dog will absolutley not get along with any other dog other than his sister, it's just how he acts around other dogs, he's not very social.

Any dog can get along with another dog if they are both socialized. It's not really the "bred"

Although Golden Retrievers are very social dogs as are German Shepherds.

You will be fine.

Any two (or more) dogs can get along, given that they have a good temperament and are well trained. It depends more on you than the breeds.

of coarse they can!!! as long as they are introduced the correct way and both dogs are correctly socialized, it would be absolutely fine!!! i would know considering i have a 4 year old lab with a 2 year old gsd.

as long as you allow the dogs to meet and they are a good match you will be fine. Its more of a dog personality thing then breed.

any dog can get along.
especially those two beautiful breeds. i am a huge fan of both of them. i have a basset hound, tho.
if there was another case i would say u r crazy to have a 2 dogs at once coz only one puppy needs many many hours of time time and attention, but two of them…
but since u made ur choice, u could not make a better selection of dog breeds. coz from all the time puppy need, theses two breeds are easiest to train then others.(whatever the word easy means.,)
be happy. by by

If ones a male and the other is a female or both females then their great! I'm not sure if a male shepherd would get along with another male though……

I have an 8 year old female German Shepherd, and a year old Siberian Husky (which are just as hyper, friendly, outgoing as Golden Retrievers), and they get along wonderfully.

I was really worried about getting Keno at first because Lady (German Shepherd) is getting older now, and I believe she's starting to feel the effects of hip dysplasia, which German Shepherds in particular are prone to. But he brings out the puppy in her. If my two dogs–with their huge age and temperament difference–can get along, then two puppies raised together are absolutely going to be fine. It'd be better, actually, because they'll have someone to play with if you're at school/work, whatever.

But it's going to be a -lot- of work. Puppies are really destructive. I think my husky meant to drive me crazy during the first four months I had him–he's not exactly the brightest dog (he is -such- a jock), but he's always insanely happy to see me, so the horrible moments are far outweighed by the good. You'll have a blast going crazy! ; )

By the way–you get points for choosing a German Shepherd. They're my absolute favorite breed. Absolutely brilliant dogs–scarily so. Mine even knows how to open doors. …Which can sometimes be a problem.
