are they the same?
I’m also debating whether to get a labrador or golden retriever (or a lab retriever/ golden lab) can someone tell me the the pros and cons of the two?
please…don’t preach to me about adopting I’ve adopted before and I’ll do it again.
You’ve actually got two questions here.
First, as to the difference between a Golden Lab and a Labrador Retriever. There is no "Golden Lab" — this is a name that some people use for a Yellow Lab (Labs come in three basic colors — yellow, black and chocolate). If someone is trying to sell you a "Golden Lab" run like crazy in the opposite direction. They either don’t know what the true name of the dog is or they are trying to sell you a Golden Retriever/Labrador Retriever cross.
Labs and Goldens are two very different breeds. I’m not either a Golden or a Lab person, but essentially, the Lab is a little more independent, a little more boisterous and *can be* a little more hyper. They are a short-coated breed, although their coat is double and they do shed like crazy.
Golden Retrievers come in *one* basic color — golden — in various shades from very pale cream to an almost Irish Setter red. Their coat is longer, with more feathering. They are a very devoted, easygoing breed and are very popular in as obedience dogs because they are easy to train. They are generally a little more laid back than Labs.
I’ll let someone who has the dog go into the cons, as my idea of the cons may not be the same as theirs. Neither would be my choice of breed, but that’s an individual taste, not necessarily the "fault" of the dog!

One is a mutt, and one isnt. If your looking for a mutt, go to your local animal shelter, they are overflowed with them. Purebreeds as well, are indeed, in need of homes. By adopting your saving a life.
Never i repeat NEVER purchase a dog from someone who claims to be a breeder, and breeds Any type of mutt such as a Golden lab, they are none other than selfish, ignorant, and irresponsible Backyard breeders, and Puppy millers. No reputable breeder, would ever intentionally create mutts. Remember that.

There are labrador retrievers and golden retrievers. Labs are shorter coated, and come in colors (yellow, black chocolate). Golden retrievers are longer haired and come in shades of gold and red. Labs are more high energy than goldens and are more eager to please, while goldens are mellower and more loyal. Both breeds are extremely intelligent.

Goldens can be laid back and mellow and can be energetic as well.

do you mean golden retriever and yellow lab? the difference mainly lies in the coat. the golden has long fur which ranges from a light cream to an auburn color. the yellow lab has short fur, and there are three different colors: yellow, black, and chocolate. they’re both labradors and have the same basic characteristics such as good with children, friendly, outgoing, and playful. i guess the only slight thing with a golden retriever is that they may require some extra grooming because of their longer coat. for more pros and cons of goldens and labs try these two links. hope this helps!

If you get the mix, get it from a shelter. NEVER buy an intentionally bred mutt.
The pros of getting the mix (from a shelter only, mind you) is that you are saving a dog and your money goes to helping more dogs. The cons are that you cannot be sure of which breed traits it will get (though the breeds are similar) and also you don’t know what health problems it may get. However, if this dog isn’t from a shelter, and is instead from a BYB or a puppy mill, then you are basically funding the cruel and unnecessary breeding done by these money-hungry pigs.
The pros of the Labrador or Golden Retriever (from a good breeder only though) is that you can see the parents, have constant contact with the breeder, know exactly what health checks were done and that your dog will be healthy for its whole life, and that you are supporting the responsible breeding of purebreds.

Question
What’s the difference between Golden lab and Labrador retriever?
are they the same?
I’m also debating whether to get a labrador or golden retriever (or a lab retriever/ golden lab) can someone tell me the the pros and cons of the two?
************************************************************************
Your question is confusing. There are Golden Retrievers & there are Labrador Retrievers. Labs come in 3 coat colors (recognized by AKC) yellow, chocolate & black. There is no such thing as a Golden Lab, unless somebody bred a Golden Ret & Lab & "coined" this name for the mix. (But is is, just a MUTT.)
Both Goldens & Labs have a lot of serious health problems due to the popularity of the breeds. Well-bred dogs have certain personality & coat differences, that might not be true, in poorly bred, examples of the breed. In general…. in well-bred versons of the breed; Labs are more protective than Goldens. Labs will at least bark; some show more protective tendiencies; to stand their ground & even challenge an intruder. Most Goldens will only "lick" a burgler. Both breeds are used by Guiding Eyes for the Blind, but of the two, the Golden is a stand-out in obedience trials (if you get a dog from obedience lines).
They have dramatically different coats, so I think you’d better determine which you prefer to have & deal with as to grooming. If you are going to do any hunting, determine the best worker for what you want to do & the conditions you want to hunt in. Both can be subject to "hot spots" etc.
Nobody reputable, will be mixing two purebreds. Designer mixes are a joke. These "producers" of Golden Labs don’t have top representatives of the breed. No othe

Labs only come in yellow, black or chocolate. When you refer to "golden" IMO it means a mix of a golden retriever and a labrador retriever.
They would be similar in size, temperment, etc. But would be shorthair as the longhair is recessive. They would shed just as much as either breed.
If you want a mix of the breeds, you can probably find one on Petfinder or the retrievers breed rescue groups.

You mean a yellow lab? I’ve never heard of a golden lab…either it’s another name for a yellow lab, or it’s a mix between lab and golden retriever. They’re not the same, you can tell by looking at their coats…a lab has a very close cropped coat, while a retriever has a longer shaggier coat. Also, a lab’s coat is more of a pale yellow - nearly white - and a retriever’s is a deep gold. Personality-wise they’re very similar - both are extremely intelligent dogs who tend to be very friendly and good with families

The Lab Retreiver is a dog recognized by kennel clubs as a purebreed. The Golden Lab is a dog not recognized by kennel clubs as a purebreed, probably a mix of a Golden Retriever and a Lab Retriever. The truth is that all dogs are mixed breeds, descended from the wolf. Therefore, all dogs, purebred or not, have a chance of medical problems and condidtions. Before you purchase, just be sure the breeder has dogs who are vet checked, as this can help your chances of having a healthy pet:)
